THE RULES

CHILD PROTECTION: No surnames or personal information

TASTE AND DECENCY: Don’t report anything which makes you uncomfortable

DEFAMATION: Report the facts, NOT rumours

CRIMINAL LAW: Avoid crime stories

COPYRIGHT: Only use YOUR OWN photos, music etc

PRIVACY: Ask yourself: If that were

me, would I want it recorded and broadcast?

CREDIBILITY: Valid ideas, appropriate for purpose and audience, written with engaging and accurate language.

 

THE ROLES

THE EDITOR: You keep talking to ALL your team. You are in charge. You make the final decisions. You support your writers and proofread the final stories. You take the rap for any infringements of the rules.

RESEARCHER(S): You find resources (information, images, stories etc) to support your writers.

WEBSITE REPORT WRITER: You draft the story for the website. Your editor will help and advise you of edits. Your researcher will supply you with information you ask for.

VIDEO SCRIPT WRITER: You draft the script for the TV report. Your editor will help and advise you. Your researcher will find information for you.

MULTIMEDIA EDITOR: You work closely with the script writer. You layout the video, ready to drop in recorded clips.

1000 – 1040 Getting the job done

Standard

ALL – 5min team meetings – editors report back + check team know what they are doing.

Researchers start researching – facts, quotations, background information, statisitics, survey results, royalty free images

(Photographs which appear on BBC News web pages (but not other BBC sites) which have one of the following credits in the bottom right-hand corner: AP, PA, AFP, Getty or Reuters. If students crop these images, they must reinstate the credit)

Editor and web page writers – talking, writing, consulting researcher

Script writer and multimedia editor – talking, writing, laying out video, consulting researcher (30sec video is 80-90 words)

1120 – 1320 Editing, assembling and uploading to WillyP site.

Standard

Editors – overviewing everyone for appropriateness and accuracy.

Researchers – on call for last minute resource requests

Web page writers – inserting credited images, (maybe  including links to a couple of other (BBC) pages that have further information on the story). Inserting BBC banners etc (look at presentation of samples from last year on BBC site).

Script writer and multimedia editor – down loading video files. Editing video. To include BBC pre-recorded video segments. (look at presentation on samples from last year on BBC site).

Resources

5.1 Make relevant notes when researching different sources, comparing and contrasting information

  • Use your own advice to research your story
  • IN YOUR OWN WORDS, record your findings to Wallwisher

Finally, before you leave

  • PRINT OUT YOUR WALLWISHER – ONE PER PERSON (we are in E3 for the next few lessons)
  • Right click on a white space on your wall – copy – paste into word – delete rubbish – print out – and save (on your blog?)
